5 Things for Monday
Here’s What You Need to Know to Start Your Day
Good morning!
Hope you had a great weekend, and enjoyed the best joke from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night!
Here are 5 things you need to know:
- Democrats and Republicans late Sunday night agreed on a $1 trillion spending bill to keep the government open until October 1. The good news: Trump did not get money for his wall, there are no cuts for Planned Parenthood or for sanctuary cities. The bil does increase defense spending. The bad news: these bills that only extend a shutdown make it extremely hard for businesses and the government to lan anything long-term. They harm the economy tremendously.Â
- Today is May Day, which in some countries is a spring festival, while in others is the International Workers’ Day, a celebration of workers started by Socialists and Communists. In the U.S. there usually are parades or protests and rallies for workers’ rights. Instead of celebrating and fighting for workers, President Donald Trump has declared today Loyalty Day, expecting Americans to show their dedication to the nation. In other words, more nationalism from this president.
- North Korea has just vowed to accelerate its nuclear weapon program “at the maximum pace.”
- House Republicans say they may vote on their TrumpCare bill to repeal and “replace” ObamaCare by Thursday. THe White House says by Wednesday. It’s unclear they have the votes.
- And finally, this:
