WATCH: GOP Congressman Sobs, Wails as He Begs God to Forgive America for ‘Sin’ of Same-Sex Marriage
“We Have Trampled on Your Holy Institution of Holy Matrimony and Tried to Rewrite What It Is and We’ve Called It an ‘Alternate Lifestyle'” Rep. Weber Says
U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) delivered something of a sermon Wednesday night during the annual far right wing event, “Washington – A Man of Prayer,†which is held each year in Statuary Hall, just under the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. Rep. Weber, a three-term congressman who won Ron Paul’s seat when the Texas congressman retired, preached at the microphone before about 20 other lawmakers and invited guests. Weber denounced a litany of America’s “sins,” including same-sex marriage and abortion, while taking the time to denounce metal detectors, police in schools, separation of church and state, and drug-sniffing dogs, as Right Wing Watch reported.
And he did it all while sobbing and choking back tears.
“Let us pray,” Rep. Weber began. “Almighty God, which art in heaven, hallowed by thy name. Lord, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth here in the halls of Congress, here in our nation’s capitol.â€
“Lord, I’m confessing, but several of the sins our nation has been so emboldened to embark upon,” Weber continued, , with virulently anti-gay Congresswoman Virginia Foxx off to the side of the podium.
“We have endeavored to try and kick your word out of public schools,†Weber told the audience.
“Father, we have endeavored to take the Bible out of classrooms, the Ten Commandments off the walls. Oh, Lord, forgive us. Father, we think we’re so smart, we’ve replaced your word and your precepts with drug-sniffing dogs, with metal detectors, with uniformed police officers in our schools. Oh, Lord, forgive us.â€
“Father, we have trampled on your holy institution of holy matrimony and tried to rewrite what it is and we’ve called it an ‘alternate lifestyle,'” Weber, sobbing and chocking, continued. “Father, oh Father, please forgive us.â€
“Lord, we have gone to killing the most innocent amongst us. Your servant Moses warned in Deuteronomy 19 for us to choose life, so that we and all our descendants might live. Father, we’re killing our descendants and we’re calling it a choice,” Weber said, again crying. “Oh, God in heaven, forgive us, please.”
Weber went on to denounce America’s “$20 trillion in debt, nations must be laughing at us,” he claimed.
Two years ago Weber faced outrage when he compared President Barack Obama to Hitler.
Right Wing Watch notes “the prayer event was kicked off by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan while Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., and Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich., served as honorary hosts.”
It’s important to note that same-sex marriage and abortion are constitutionally-protected rights, per the U.S. Supreme Court. In fact, everything Rep. Weber mentioned is fully legal. As a member of Congress he has sworn an oath, with his hand on the Bible, to uphold the Constitution.
Denouncing as “sin” the Constitutionally-protected rights of Americans in a religious ceremony within the halls of Congress is the height of anti-Americanism, especially when coming from a sitting U.S. Congressman.
