Trump Touts GOP’s Love and Strength Days After Threatening GOP
“We Must Fight Them!”
Days after threatening 36 members of the Republican party, Donald Trump took to Twitter Sunday morning to tout the “love and strength in R Party!†– presumably not speaking in pirate and, in fact, referring to the Republican Party as a whole.Â
“Anybody (especially Fake News media) who thinks that Repeal & Replace of ObamaCare is dead,†the Tweet (below) reads, “does not know the love and strength in R Party!â€

The tweet follows Trump’s own threat to fight 36 members of the “R†party, the far right wing House Freedom Caucus, after his failure to repeal and replace ObamaCare. “The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast,†the tweet read. “We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!â€

He subsequently attacked the members of his own party by name, attacking Rep. Mark Meadows, the Freedom Caucus chair, as well as influential members Rep. Jim Jordan, and Rep. Raul Labrador:
If @RepMarkMeadows, @Jim_Jordan and @Raul_Labrador would get on board we would have both great healthcare and massive tax cuts & reform.

The touting of the supposed love and strength of the Republican Party also follows White House Director of Social Media Dan Scavino Jr.’s tweet, in which he directly called for the “TrumpTrain†to defeat Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, also a Republican:
.@realDonaldTrump is bringing auto plants & jobs back to Michigan. @justinamash is a big liability.#TrumpTrain, defeat him in primary.
— Dan Scavino Jr. (@DanScavino) April 1, 2017
As ThinkProgress pointed out, the tweet arguably violates the 1939 Hatch Act, which “prohibits White House staff from using their ‘official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with an election or affecting the result thereof.’â€
 Love and strength.
