Further Affirms Taxpayers Will Pay For His Proposed Wall

“We will build a great wall along the southern border,” Donald Trump’s signature campaign promise often began, a promise that’s now reportedly at the center of the potential and looming government shutdown. “And Mexico will pay for the wall.”

One example can be seen below:

Trump’s supporters frequently chanted at his campaign rallies, on cue, that Mexico would pay for the wall—though as many have pointed out (including Mexico), it will be paid for by U.S. taxpayers.

The president took to Twitter today to reaffirm that fact:

“Eventually, but at a later date so we can get started early,” Trump tweeted, “Mexico will be paying, in some form, for the badly needed border wall.”
