Says His Priorities Are God, Family, and Country
Roy Moore has just announced he is entering Alabama’s special race this year for a seat in the U.S. Senate. The state Supreme Court Chief Justice, who has been suspended until the end of his term after he instructed all state probate judges to refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples months after the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell, also said he will resign from the high court.
“I stood up for the Constitution,” and God, Moore told a small gathering today, as AL.com reports. He also told supporters the U.S. Supreme Court “destroyed” the “sacred institution of marriage.”Â
Moore also promised to “stand for the rights and liberties of the people,” although did not specify which ones.
The only man who has ever lost his job as the State Supreme Court Chief Justice twice, today aligned himself with President Donald Trump, saying he wants to make America great again. He also held up a single piece of paper, telling reporters he has outlined his positions on several national issues, noting the date on the document is March of 2011. “Some things have changed, some things have not.”
Moore said his priorities, in order are God, family, and country. And he told supporters that “before we can make America great again,” we have to make America morally good again.
The primary vote is August 15. The special election is December 12.
Those who dismiss Moore’s entrance as a long shot should re-think their position. It’s Alabama. One local reporter notes:
