REPORT: Right-Wing Groups Commit Nearly 3 Out of Every 4 Deadly Extremist Attacks in US

Published

on

Radical Islamic Attacks Happen Less Frequently, but Are Larger in Scale

The federal government’s General Accounting Office (GAO) has measured data gathered on extremist attacks in the United States between September 12, 2001 – the day after the 9/11 attacks – and December 31, 2016. They found that of “the 85 violent extremist incidents that resulted in death since September 12, 2001, far right wing violent extremist groups were responsible for 62 (73 percent) while radical Islamist violent extremists were responsible for 23 (27 percent).”

It may seem like attacks carried out by radical Islamic extremists happen more often, but in reality, there are far more deadly attacks carried out by far-right extremists. However, the attacks carried out by radical Islamic extremists were larger in scale, resulting in more deaths in a single incident. “41 percent of the deaths attributable to radical Islamist violent extremists occurred in a single event—an attack at an Orlando, Florida night club in 2016,” the GAO report said.

That attack, on Pulse, a gay nightclub, was the the nation’s worst anti-LGBT hate crime, the deadliest terror attack since 9/11, and the deadliest mass shooting in modern American times.

Overall, the reports says, “from September 12, 2001 through December 31, 2016, attacks by domestic or ‘homegrown’ violent extremists in the United States resulted in 225 fatalities, according to the ECDB. Of these, 106 were killed by far right violent extremists in 62 separate incidents, and 119 were victims of radical Islamist violent extremists in 23 separate incidents.”

Based on data collected in the US Extremist Crime Database (ECDB), far-right extremist attackers are more likely to subscribe to beliefs that are:

  • Fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)
  • Anti-global;
  • Suspicious of centralized federal authority;
  • Reverent of individual liberty (especially right to own guns; be free of taxes)
  • Believe in conspiracy theories that involve a grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty;
  • Believe that one’s personal and/or national “way of life” is under attack and is either already lost or that the threat is imminent;
  • Believe in the need to be prepared for an attack either by participating in or supporting the need for paramilitary preparations and training or survivalism;
  • Express support for some version of white supremacy, the Ku Klux Klan, and neo-Nazism.

With a released progress report of the Federal Government’s 2011 Strategic Implementation Plan for Countering Violent Extremism (SIP-CVE), the Government Accountability Office found that only 19 of 44 tasks had been implemented, 23 were still in progress, and two had been ignored completely.

According to the GAO, “The federal government does not have a cohesive strategy or process for assessing the overall CVE effort. Although GAO was able to determine the status of the 44 CVE tasks, it was not able to determine if the United States is better off today than it was in 2011 as a result of these tasks.”

Supreme Court Tosses Texas Multi-State Demand to Void Millions of Votes in Four States Biden Won

Published

on

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a demand from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 17 other states to void millions of legally-valid ballots from voters in four states Joe Biden won.

That case was joined by 125 Republican members of Congress.

It’s important to note the Supreme Court refused to hear the case based on lack of standing. It should have berated the filers for bringing such a frivolous case to the court, but did not.

Nunes Says He’s Tested Positive for Coronavirus Antibodies

Published

on

UPDATE: Nunes says he tested positive for coronavirus antibodies. He’s challenged previous reporting from a Politico reporter (below) who did not say antibodies. It’s unclear if the California Congressman said “antibodies” during the original interview. This report has been changed to relect the new information.

U.S. Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA) says he has tested positive for coronavirus antibodies. He would be the latest Republican in President Donald Trump’s orbit to have had COVID-19.

Politico’s Carla Marinucci reports the Trump-loving California Congressman known for his conspiracy theories surrounding the Russia investigation told a local radio station of his diagnosis.

Nearly 60 people in Trump’s orbit have tested positive in the past several months. It’s unknown how many have received VIP treatment and care.

Several months ago Nunes was caught on a plane not wearing a mask.

Trump Spirals Further Into Fury – This Time Targeting the Supreme Court in a Pressure Campaign

Published

on

President Donald Trump Friday afternoon followed up his morning tweetstorm with an attack targeting the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump is now trying to pressure the nine justices to take up the “far-fetched” and “baseless” Texas case, supported by 17 other attorneys general, that would literally void the votes of millions of Americans in four states Trump lost.

Legal experts on both sides of the aisle have called the case ridiculous and say it has no chance, but that isn’t stopping Trump (who also had a “disgraced white supremacist” attorney file a motion to allow him to join the case.)

“If the Supreme Court shows great Wisdom and Courage, the American People will win perhaps the most important case in history, and our Electoral Process will be respected again!” Trump tweeted, in an exceptionally false attempt to force the Court to take the case.

He then tweeted this lie, claiming Democrats will pack the court with 25 new justices – something no one has ever even remotely suggested. Trump can’t keep his lies straight, though. Just hours earlier he claimed the number – again, ripped from his imagination – was 26, not 25.

For the record, President-elect Joe Biden has said he is not interested in expanding the court, even a little, despite the clear necessity of doing so.

Trump is engaging in a dangerous attempt to very publicly make a “deal” with the court – his corruption generally is done out in the open (“Russia, if you’re listening”). His amateurish attempts to subvert democracy are fortunately going no where – except on to the very long list of potential crimes a future Attorney General likely will soon compile – if the FBI isn’t already.
