Ivanka Trump Met With Skepticism – and Hisses – at Women’s Summit in Berlin
Criticizes Media for World Response to her Father’s ‘Access Hollywood’ Tape
Ivanka Trump was met with skepticism by attendees and even panelists at the W20, a part of the G20 and a conference focusing on women’s empowerment in Berlin. Trump, invited personally by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, was asked in what capacity she was appearing, and later, was met with hisses when she painted her father, President Donald Trump, as a champion of women.
“You’re the first daughter of the United States, and you’re also an assistant to the president,†moderator Miriam Meckel, the editor-in-chief of WirtschaftsWoche, began her conversation on stage with Ivanka Trump, as Politico reported.Â

“The German audience is not that familiar with the concept of a first daughter. I’d like to ask you, what is your role, and who are you representing, your father as president of the United States, the American people, or your business?â€

Trump quickly responded, “Certainly not the latter,†sensitive to the massive criticism she and her family receive daily from the American people disturbed that they are using the White House and federal government, even the State Dept., for personal financial gain.
“I’m rather unfamiliar with this role as well,” Trump continued, as she attempted to win over the audience. “It has been a little under 100 days and it has just been a remarkable and incredible journey.”
But she didn’t actually answer the question.
Later, the First Daughter praised her father as a champion of empowering women, and as an advocate for them. The audience responded with boos and hisses, so strong the moderator was forced to acknowledge them.

“You hear the reaction from the audience,†Meckel observed. “I need to address one more point – some attitudes toward women your father has displayed might leave one questioning whether he’s such an ’empowerer’ for women.â€
Meckel of course was referring to the “Access Hollywood” tape during which Donald Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women, and other remarks he has made over the years.
Ivanka Trump sidestepped the elephant in the room, and like her father, attacked the media rather than shoulder any criticism.
“I’ve certainly heard the criticism from the media, that’s been perpetuated,†Trump told the panelists and the audience.
“As a daughter, I can speak on a very personal level,†she continued. “I grew up in a house where there was no barriers to what I could accomplish beyond my own perseverance and tenacity. That’s not an easy thing to do, he provided that for us.â€
