Chaffetz, Cummings Say Michael Flynn Took Money From Russia and Government Must Take It Back

‘You Simply Cannot Take Money From Russia, Turkey, or Anybody Else’ Chaffetz Says

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz and Ranking Member Elijah Cummings say it appears former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn took payments from Russia and Turkey and did not follow the law by asking for and receiving permission to do so. Chairman Chaffetz says if Flynn broke the law the federal government must take action, including taking that money back.

The top Republican and Democrat on the Oversight Committee had just come from a classified briefing. Cummings later read a short statement, saying he wanted to be careful of his words after having been briefed.

Flynn has admitted he was paid tens of thousands of dollars as a speaking fee while in Russia. He was infamously photographed sitting at a table next to Russian President Vladimir Putin and across from Green Party leader Jill Stein at a party for RT, the Russian propaganda media network.

Now retired, Flynn served as a U.S. Army Lt. General. Chaffetz said even retired members of the military are not allowed to accept money from foreign governments without receiving permission, and said it appears Flynn did not.

The Trump administration appears to be not co-operating with the Oversight Committee’s investigation:
