White House Spokesperson Refuses to Say if Media Reports Are Trump’s Source for ‘Wires Tapped’ Accusation

‘If the President Walked Across the Potomac, the Media Would Report That He Couldn’t Swim’

White House Principal Deputy Spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to say if media reports are the source of President Donald Trump’s false accusation that President Barack Obama tapped his Trump Tower offices. Many believe a Thursday report from far right wing radio host Mark Levin, followed by a Friday article in Breitbart quoting Levin, is all President Trump needed to believe Obama was “wire tapping” him.

In other words, Trump has zero evidence.

When asked directly Monday morning to substantiate the president’s claims, and to reveal the source of them, Huckabee Sanders refused, saying she hadn’t even talked with the president about his charges, which will now cost the American taxpayers millions of dollars in House and Senate investigations.

All she could say is “the president believes,” just as her boss, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, said days after the inauguration about President Trump’s lie that three to five million people voted “illegally.”

“The president does believe that,” Spicer told reporters back in January. “It’s a belief he maintains.”

Savannah Guthrie on NBC’s “Today” show Monday morning asked Huckabee Sanders point-blank, “Can you just let us know, is that the source of this information, strictly from media reports, and not from any other source?”

Any other source could and should include the U.S. intelligence services, over which the president maintains a modicum of authority.

“Look, the president firmly believes that the Obama administration may have tapped into the phones at Trump Tower, and this is something that we should look into. We’d like to know for sure.”

First of all, notice how far back she’s walking Trump’s assertion from Saturday, that “Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!”

And, of course, this:

But all the American people can get in return is President Trump’s “belief” system, which apparently extends further than his lies about the three to five million people who voter “illegally” against him, and his new wire-tapping insanity.

“If the president walked across the Potomac,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “the media would report that he couldn’t swim.”
