White House Now Says Kellyanne Conway’s Talk of ‘Microwaves That Turn Into Cameras’ Has Been ‘Cleaned Up’

It Was All Just a Joke, Get It?

Before becoming Donald Trump’s presidential campaign manager and then his White House Counselor, Kellyanne Conway was (and may still be) the head of her own company, a polling firm. She has a law degree, worked for Ted Cruz just last year, and Newt Gingrich in 2012, among many others over the years.

And yet, this highly accomplished woman believes she can do and say anything without consequence, and the White House is supporting her in that.

When she coined the dangerous term “alternative facts,” there were no consequences.

When Conway effectively broke the law by giving Ivanka Trump a “free commercial,” the White House announced she would not be penalized or punished, despite the Office of Government Ethics’ repeated letters of concern.

When she lied about the “Bowling Green Massacre,” which never happened except in her mind, the White House covered for her and benched her for a few days, but there were no consequences. Nor were there any when she later lied about it.

This week Conway announced that “we know” that it “is just a fact of modern life” that there “are many ways to surveil each other now, unfortunately.”

“There was an article this week that talked about how you can surveil someone through their phones, certainly through their television sets, any number of different ways,” Conway told a local New Jersey newspaper. “And microwaves that turn into cameras, etc.”

Get that?

“And microwaves that turn into cameras.”

That led to nearly uncontrolled mockery on social media Monday, with seemingly millions of memes depicting Conway with microwave ovens, cameras in microwave ovens, buttons on microwave ovens marked “espionage,” and many more.

But Conway made it clear, in an attempt to further give President Donald Trump room to walk back his lie that his predecessor committed a felony by “wiretapping” him, that words don’t have meaning, or that they can be turned and twisted in a variety of ways, which is what pollsters know all too well how to do. 

In other words, Conway is purposely muddying the waters so Spicer and others can actually claim the President didn’t really man Obama wiretapped him, even though that’s exactly what Trump said. 

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary announced that Kellyanne Conway was just joking when she said with a straight face in a very serious interview that “ you can surveil someone through their phones, certainly through their television sets, any number of different ways.”

“And microwaves that turn into cameras, etc.”

Conway on Monday, amid the mocking of her remarks tried to walk them back, saying she had just been speaking generally, not specifically about President Barack Obama’s activities.

In the Tuesday White House Daily Press Briefing, Spicer was forced to cover for her yet again.

“I think there is pretty sound evidence that the microwave is not a sound way of surveilling someone,” Spicer told reporters. “And I think that has been cleaned up. It was made in jest, so I think we can put that to rest.” 

“Cleaned up.”

“Made in jest.”
