Spicer’s Claim Is Demonstrably False
White House Press Secretary made two stunning remarks Tuesday during one of his shortest-ever press briefings. The first, an amusing one, although delivered out of anger and frustration: If President Trump “puts Russian salad dressing on his salad tonight, somehow that’s a Russian connection,” Spicer told reporters.Â
The second came immediately after that claim, and was lost on many.
But it is striking in its brazenness – and extreme falseness.
“The facts are that every single person who has been briefed on this subject has come away with the same conclusion – Republican, Democrat,” Spicer told reporters. “At some point the facts are what they are. Every single person who has been briefed on this situation, with respect to the situation with Russia – Republican, Democrat, Obama-appointee, career – have all come to the same conclusion,” Spicer insisted.
“At some point,” he told reporter April Ryan, “you’re going to have to take no for an answer with respect to collusion.”
That’s demonstrably false. House Intelligence Vice Chairman Adam Schiff last week went from stating there is circumstantial evidence of collusion and “direct evidence†of deception, to stating “there is more than circumstantial evidence now” of collusion. He added, “I will say that there is evidence that is not circumstantial and very much worthy of investigation.”
That alone makes Spicer’s statement at this point false.
