WATCH: Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer Calls for Attorney General Sessions to Resign

‘For the Good of the Country, Attorney General Sessions Should Resign’

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has just called for the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions amid allegations of perjury by the former Alabama Senator. Sessions met twice with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential campaign, including at the RNC, yet during his sworn testimony in his confirmation hearing denied knowing that anyone associated with the Trump campaign had conversations with Russian officials. Sessions was a top Trump surrogate and even acknowledged he had been called that during the hearing. Sessions later in written testimony also denied having conversations with Russian officials.

“There cannot be even the scintilla of doubt about the impartiality and fairness of the attorney general,” Sen. Schumer told reporters Thursday morning at a press conference. “It’s clear Attorney General Sessions does not meet that test.”

“For the good of the country, Attorney General Sessions should resign.”

Schumer joins other top Democrats in calling for Sessions’ resignation.
