US Secret Service Agent’s Laptop, Briefcase Stolen in Brooklyn

Laptop Was Encrypted

An encrypted laptop and briefcase containing highly sensitive classified materials detailing security and ongoing Secret Service investigations were stolen out of an agent’s car in Brooklyn, New York, Thursday, according to multiple media reports.

A spokesperson for the New York Field Office of the United States Secret Service had no comment when contacted by NCRM Friday afternoon, however a source in the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Secret Service confirmed the loss and indicated that the laptop was remotely wiped so as to prevent disclosure of its contents to unauthorised persons.

A New York City Police source confirmed the loss to ABC News and added that the briefcase also contained sensitive materials that outlined security arrangements and floor plans for Trump Tower, and security plans concerning the First Lady Melania and the First Couple’s son Barron. The briefcase also contained lapel pins used by the USSS to identify persons or personnel cleared to be in close proximity to the First Family, such as staffers or household workers.

In an official statement the Secret Service said “an employee was the victim of a criminal act in which our Agency issued laptop computer was stolen.”

“Secret Service issued laptops contain multiple layers of security including full disk encryption and are not permitted to contain classified information.”
