Despite Pledge, Trump Declines To Prove He Isn’t Taking Presidential Salary

“I’m not going to take the salary,” he told “60 Minutes” in November

The Trump administration has declined to release proof that the president is not taking a salary, as he pledged both before and after the election. 

According to federal law, the president receives a $400,000 annual salary, to be paid monthly. Trump is set to receive his second paycheck of $33,000 on March 20. 

Last week, MSNBC sent a letter requesting information about Trump’s paychecks to the Treasury Department, the Office of Personnel Management and the General Services Administration, NBC News reports. Also copied on the letter were White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders. 

MSNBC requested a response by Friday, but didn’t receive any. 

Last month, Sanders told PolitiFact that Trump would either donate his salary or give it back to the Treasury Department. 

“I’m not going to take the salary,” Trump told “60 Minutes” in November. 

NBC News notes that his salary is “not the only area where Trump’s pledges to donate revenue are lacking transparency.”  

“During the transition, Trump also unveiled a plan to ‘donate all profits from foreign governments’ patronage of his hotels and similar businesses’ to the Treasury Department,” the network reported. “The plan was released by Trump’s private law firm, Morgan Lewis, but no system or accounting has been released for how or when such donations will be processed or disclosed.”
