‘Seems to Be More Interested in Protecting the President Than in Seeking the Truth’
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Monday afternoon publicly called on Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to remove Rep. Devin Nunes from his role as House Intelligence Chairman. Congressman Nunes last week drew outrage and ire after making unsubstantiated claims against intelligence agencies and after admitting he used a White House SCIF, a secured location, to meet with an unidentified source to view documents.
“If Speaker Ryan wants the House to have a credible investigation, he needs to replace Chairman Nunes,” Sen. Schumer said. “Chairman Nunes is falling down on the job and seems to be more interested in protecting the president than in seeking the truth. You cannot have the person in charge of an impartial investigation be partial to one side,” he added.
“It’s an inherent contradiction.”Â
Last week Rep. Nunes admitted he ran to President Trump to share his findings out of a sense of “duty” to the President. Rep. Nunes should not have a sense of duty to the president, since his job is overseeing the White House.
Earlier today Speaker Ryan said he had confidence in Nunes.
