Senate Intelligence Committee: Our Russia Investigation ‘Within Weeks of Completing’ Review of Documents

‘Some of the Techniques That Russia Used Go to the Heart of Our Democratic Process’

Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) Wednesday afternoon announced they are “within weeks of completing the review” of thousands of documents related to their investigation into Russia and its intervention in the 2016 U.S. election. He noted the Committee has seven full-time staffers working on their Russia investigation.

“This investigation’s scope will go wherever the evidence leads it,” Sen. Burr told reporters at a press conference. He says his staffers have had “unprecedented” access to Gang of 8 information on Russia.

“An outside foreign adversary sought to hijack our most critical democratic process: the election of a president,” said Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), the Committee’s Vice Chair. “And in that process decided to favor one candidate over another.”

“Russia’s goal, Vladimir Putin’s goal, is a weaker United States,” Warner aded. “Some of the techniques that Russia used go to the heart of our democratic process.”

The committee, the Senators said, have asked 20 people to testify, five are scheduled. The only name made public so far is Jared Kushner.

Warner said, “Getting it right is more important than getting it done quickly,” while admitting he would like to get it done as soon as possible, but knows, “We need to get this right.”

Warner also talked about Russia bots and their effectiveness.
