Senate Decmoratic Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday predicted that any effort by President Donald Trump to undermine Obamacare will backfire.Â
After the GOP’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare died on Friday, Trump claimed that the Affordable Care Act will now “explode.”Â
“For the president to say that he’ll destroy it or undermine it, that’s not presidential, that’s petulance, being petulant not a president,” Schumer told ABC News’ “This Week.”Â
“And it’s not going to work,” he said. “The job of a president is to make Americans’ lives better, and if he, out of anger or vengeance or whatever, starts undermining ACA, it’s going to backfire on him, because he’s the president, and the American people know he’s in charge, and the American people want him to make things better.”Â
Schumer said GOP healthcare plan crashed and burned in part because Trump displayed “a basic lack of competence.”Â
“You cannot run the presidency like you run a real estate deal. You can’t tweet your way through it. You can’t threaten and intimidate, say I’ll walk away, it’s more complicated,” Schumer told ABC News’ “This Week.”Â
