Kellyanne Conway Denies “Alternative Facts,” “Bowling Green Massacre” Hurt Her Credibility

“Things Happen To Everyone,” White House Counselor Says

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway says her two notorious recent gaffes on national television didn’t — and shouldn’t — hurt her credibility.

In an interview on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Nora O’Donnell asked Conway about her statements regarding the “Bowling Green Massacre” and “alternative facts.”   

“Did that hurt your credibility?” O’Donnell said. 

“I think the question presumes that it did, and so now you’ve got that out in the ether, and the one or two—” Conway said.   

“Actually, you can say no. I didn’t presume anything,” O’Donnell interrupted. 

“No,” Conway responded. “What people should do, what I’ve always done with others is, look at the measure of someone’s career. I’ve been a pollster for two decades plus, and I’ve worked very hard to speak candidly and truthfully.” 

Asked by O’Donnell to explain what “alternative facts” are, Conway went on to compare her plight to the the wrong Best Picture winner being announced at the Academy Awards. 

“Well, it was alternative information and additional facts. And that got conflated,” Conway said. “I see mistakes on TV every single day and people just brush them off. Everybody thinks it’s just so funny that the wrong — the wrong movie was, you know, heralded as the winner of the Oscars. You say, ‘Oh well, that’s just all in good fun. Things happen.’ Well, things happen to everyone.”
