‘I Don’t Trust Him’: As Democrats Call for Intel Chair Nunes to Recuse, Nunes Cancels All Committee Meetings

‘He Has Tainted the Committee’

The House Intelligence Committee is in a state of irreparable chaos. As its Republican chairman, Devin Nunes, continues his lone ranger escapades to protect President Donald Trump, which he admits are from a sense of “duty” to the President, Democrats on the Committee are calling for him to recuse himself from oversight investigations into Donald Trump, the Trump campaign, transition team, and Russia. Their reasoning? After briefing the President, he has proved he is too close to the White House and the administration o maintain objectivity and to lead a credible investigation.

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday morning, Democratic Rep. Jim Himes revealed that Nunes has now canceled all meetings for this week.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has also just called on Speaker Paul Ryan to insist Nunes recuse himself.

And on CNN Tuesday morning, Intelligence Committee member, Rep. Jackie Speier, delivered a stunning blow.

“I don’t trust him,” she said of Chairman Nunes. ” I think he is, frankly, over his head. I think he used very poor judgment, and I think he has tainted the committee. I actually think there is an effort underway to shut this committee down by the President. He does not want this committee’s investigation to move forward.”

Rep. Speier didn’t mention it, but late Monday night President Trump went on a tweetstorm, clearly trying to rev up his base to put pressure on the Intelligence Committee to look into Hillary and Bill Clinton. Trump repeated his old campaign lies, which last year earned him four Pinocchios from the Washington Post.
