ACLU Responds On Twitter:Â “We’re Ready. See You In Court (Again).”
President Donald Trump is expected to sign a revised version of his Muslim travel ban on Monday.Â
It’s unclear how the new version will differ from the original, which was blocked by federal courts in response to lawsuits from the ACLU and other groups.Â
“We’re ready. See you in court (again),” the ACLU tweeted Saturday above a report from POLITICO about Trump’s plans to sign the new travel ban.Â
Trump’s original executive order temporarily blocked immigration from seven Muslim majority countries, and halted the nation’s refugee resettlement program. It also caused chaos at airports and resulted in widespread protests.Â
The administration was initially set to unveil the revised travel ban this week, but delayed the rollout to keep the momentum going from Trump’s speech to Congress on Tuesday. However, any such momentum quickly disappeared thanks to the scandal involving Attorney General Jeff Sessions.Â
Trump reportedly went “ballistic” about the Sessions situation in a meeting with top advisers on Friday, and on Saturday he accused President Barack Obama of wiretapping him during the campaign. A spokesman for Obama later called Trump’s allegations “simply false.”Â
According to the POLITICO report, White House chief strategist Steve Bannon traveled to Florida on Saturday with representatives from the Department of Justice “for an EO launch meeting.” They will meet with Trump and officials from the Department of Homeland Security at his Mar-a-Lago resort, where he is spending his fourth weekend since taking office.Â
“Employees at DHS were instructed to work from home on Monday morning, according to an internal agency email sent late Friday,” POLITICO reported.Â
