Breaking: Paul Ryan Is at the White House to Tell Trump He Cannot Pass TrumpCare – Vote May Be Postponed
Will Trump Demand a Vote?
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan right now is at the White House, reportedly telling President Donald Trump he just does not have the votes to pass TrumpCare, the GOP bill to repeal and “replace” ObamaCare. Thursday afternoon the president sent his top officials to Capitol Hill to twist arms. He also demanded a vote Friday morning on the bill, saying it was now or never. President Trump threatened if a vote does not take place Friday, and the bill does not pass, he will leave ObamaCare standing and will not sign any legislation to repeal it.
According to multiple sources, and one Republican Congressman, right now the talk is the vote will be postponed. The earliest the vote could take place from an administrative standpoint is sometime just after 3 PM EDT. It was expected the vote would be called for 4 PM.
Postponing the vote, should Trump agree to it, would allow Republican leadership to try to continue to twist arms. But it would also allow constituents to have even more opportunity to demand lawmakers vote no on TrumpCare, which will kick tens of millions of people off health care coverage.
UPDATE I: 1:06 PM EDT –
White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney according to multiple sources told Speaker Ryan, “The president doesn’t care. The president wants a vote.”
UPDATE II: 1:33 PM EDT –
Sean Spicer says there will be a vote at 3:30. He seems unaware Speaker Ryan, not President Trump, makes that decision.
UPDATE III: 1:43 PM EDT –   Â
