Art of the Deal?: Trump Fails to Convince Conservatives to Vote for Bill to Repeal ObamaCare – AHCA Near Death

‘No Deal’

For nearly seven years Republicans have promised to repeal and replace ObamaCare but the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the bill that Speaker Paul Ryan, President Donald Trump, HHS Secretary Tom Price, and some House Republicans claim would be a better alternative is right now not likely to pass.

While all House Democrats oppose the bill, dozens of House Republicans do as well. The Freedom Caucus, the most far-right group in the House, say the bill does not go far enough in repealing ObamaCare and merely swaps subsidies for tax credits. Freedom Caucus chair Mark Meadows (photo, right) Thursday afternoon said, “No deal.”

Despite being elected on the ruse of being a great businessman, dealmaker, and negotiator, President Donald Trump, after meeting several times with Republicans both in the House and in the White House, after making changes to the AHCA that would harm Americans even more than first attempted, President Trump failed to convince Republicans to vote for the hugely unpopular legislation. Reportedly Trump told the Caucus to “take it or leave it.”

At this moment the bill appears to be near death.

A vote is still anticipated for Thursday evening.
