Breaking: Attorney General Sessions, Amid Allegations of Perjury, Announces He Will Recuse Not Resign

‘I Have Now Decided to Recuse Myself of Any Existing or Future Investigations of Any Matter Relating in Any Way to the Campaigns for President of the United States’

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has just announced he will recuse himself from any investigation into the Trump campaign. Sessions came under fire Wednesday night after a report revealed that despite claiming he knew of no one involved with the Trump campaign who had had conversations with Russian officials, he in fact twice met with the Russian Ambassador.

The idea that I was part of a ‘continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government,’ is totally false,” Sessions said about his testimony.

I have now decided to recuse myself of any existing or future investigations of any matter relating in any way to the campaigns for president of the United States,” Sessions said.

“This announcement should not be interpreted as confirmation of the existence of any investigation or suggestive of the scope of any such investigation. because we and the Department of Justice resist confirming or denying the very existence of investigations. So, in the end, I have followed the right procedure, just as I promised the committee I would.”

MSNBC’s Ari Melber notes this is a “partial” recusal, as it only covers the time period of the presidential campaign. He has not recused himself from any other investigations of the Trump presidency.
