‘Of Course I Don’t Have Any Evidence’: Kellyanne Conway Suggests ‘Microwaves’ Used to Surveil Trump

Walks Back Statement, Says She Was Only Speaking ‘Generally’

Kellyanne Conway is being mocked for comments she’s made over the past 24 hours to a local New Jersey newspaper and to ABC News and CNN. The White House Counselor to the President told the Bergen Record that “microwaves that turn into cameras” could have been used to surveil Trump Tower, suggesting, the paper reports, the wiretapping that Trump insists President Obama did could be even broader than Trump first charged.

“What I can say is there are many ways to surveil each other,” Conway told the Record’s Mike Kelly on Sunday. “You can surveil someone through their phones, certainly through their television sets — any number of ways.”

Kelly reports Conway “went on to say that the monitoring could be done with ‘microwaves that turn into cameras,’ adding: ‘We know this is a fact of modern life.'”

Last week WikiLeaks claimed to produce details of CIA digital weapons that include the ability to turn on cameras and microphones on consumer cell phones and TV’s to eavesdrop.

On Monday, Conway was again forced to play defense. Appearing on ABC News’ “Good Morning America,” she told George Stephanopoulos, “Of course I don’t have any evidence for those allegations. She also denied her remarks were related to Trump’s allegations against Obama.

The Bergen Record’s Mike Kelly Monday morning told CNN that after interviewing Conway he believes her remarks invoking WikiLeaks claims of CIA digital weapons are a “serious strategy by the Trump administration.”

Conway later appeared on CNN, telling Chris Cuomo, “I’m not Inspector Gadget,” she said, referring to the animated 1980’s TV show. “I don’t believe people are using the microwave to spy on the Trump  campaign.”

She added, “I’m not in the job of having evidence.” Conway is the head of her own polling organization. She gain denied she was speaking specifically.
