White House: Investigating Trump’s Ties to Russia Just Democrats Wanting to ‘Relive Their Loss’

  • Claims FBI Calls Russia Story ‘BS’

  • Suggests Attorney General Will Not Be Recusing Himself

White House Principal Deputy Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders threatened that calls for an investigation into President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia will just be Democrats reliving their 2016 loss of the race for the presidency.

Responding to the surprise announcement by California Republican Congressman Darrell Issa that Congress should have a special prosecutor investigate Trump’s Russia ties and the intervention of Russia into the election, and that Attorney General Jeff Sessions must recuse himself from any investigation, Huckabee Sanders called the the president’s involvement with Russia “BS.”

“Look, I think the real easy answer here is that the FBI has already said this story is BS,” Huckabee Sanders told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos (video below). “Those are their words, so I apologize to my mom. But literally, those are the words of the FBI, that the story is BS.”

In fact, that’s inaccurate.

Senior White House officials, Talking Points Memo reported, “told reporters that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe brought up to [Rince] Priebus during a one-on-one meeting on Feb. 15 that a New York Times story on the subject was ‘bullshit,’ according to a White House pool report.”

In other words, the White House says the FBI said the Times story was “BS.”

Stephanopoulos responded saying exactly that: “First of all, the FBI has made officially no comment. The FBI director, James Comey, has had no comment. You’re saying that the FBI told you that it was BS. The FBI hasn’t said that at all.”

Huckabee Sanders said that any congressional committees investigating Trump’s Russia ties will all “come to the same conclusion — that we had no involvement in this.”

“The bigger thing here is if Democrats want to continue to relive their loss every single day by doing investigations or review after review, that’s fine by us,” she charged. “We know why we won this race. It’s because we had the better candidate with the better message. They didn’t campaign in the right places. They didn’t have a good candidate. If they want to continue to relive that loss every single day, then we welcome that.”

Stephanopoulos responded, “I’ll just say that for the record and I’ll take your answer to say you don’t believe that the attorney general needs to recuse right now.”

Huckabee Sanders replied, “George, I don’t think we’re there yet.”
