It Appears the President Watched the 89th Annual Awards Show All the Way to the End
Donald Trump’s White House press office told reporters last week the president would not be watching the Academy Awards on Sunday, but in an “exclusive” interview with his chief strategist’s reportedly former employer he says the Oscars mixup, wrongly announcing Best Picture as La La Land and not Moonlight was caused by their focus on politics instead of running the show.
“I think they were focused so hard on politics that they didn’t get the act together at the end,†President Trump told the website Breitbart. “It was a little sad. It took away from the glamour of the Oscars. It didn’t feel like a very glamorous evening. I’ve been to the Oscars. There was something very special missing, and then to end that way was sad.â€
It appears the President watched the 89th annual awards show all the way to the end. Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel and some of the early presenters and award recipients did inject politics into the show in the beginning, attacking the president’s policies, but by the halfway point that was mostly over.
Breitbart’s Matthew Boyle opined, “The awful mistake came after hours of Trump-bashing by the Hollywood elites, who hammered the president in joke after joke. Now, the president has got the last laugh as he hammers Hollywood for its epic fail.”
Trump’s chief White House strategist Steve Bannon reportedly resigned from Breitbart via telephone when the president was elected, although according to a report in Politico he did not tender a letter of resignation. It’s unclear if he has any financial ties to the organization.
