Trump Administration to Rewrite Muslim ‘Travel-Restrictions’ Executive Order

President: ‘We Need Speed for Reasons of Security’

A White House official acknowledged Friday evening that the White House Counsel’s Office along with senior advisers are working on a new draft, rewriting the language of President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration, according to NBC News.

A three judge panel of the United States 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Thursday had issued a unanimous ruling that upheld United States District Judge James Robart ‘s ruling which ordered suspension of Trump’s order.

En-route to his vacation home in Florida Friday afternoon, President Trump in a surprise appearance in the press section aboard Air Force One said that he’s considering signing a new executive order on immigration, as the one he signed suspending the nation’s refugee program and barring citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries is held up in court.

The president added that he’s confident he’ll win his court battle, however he added “we also have a lot of other options, including just filing a brand new order.”

When asked by a reporter about the rapid change in his approach given the court ruling the president said, “We need speed for reasons of security. So it could very well be that we do that.”

Trump says a new order would likely change “very little” from the first and says he’ll likely act next Monday or Tuesday. When asked about the possible language of the new order, the president demurred saying “I’d like to surprise you.”

In the 9th Circuit’s Court of Appeals ruling the court noted:

“We hold that the government has not shown a likelihood of success on the merits of its appeal, nor has it shown that failure to enter a stay would cause irreparable injury, and we therefore deny its emergency motion for a stay.”
