The New Quinnipiac Poll Is Out. It Says ‘President Donald Trump’s Popularity Is Sinking Like a Rock’
‘Slammed on Honesty, Empathy, Level Headedness and the Ability to Unite’
Never in the history of polling has an American president had such bad poll numbers just one month in to their tenure. And the numbers are only getting worse, according to a just-released Quinnipiac poll. Tim Malloy, Quinnipiac University Poll’s assistant director, sums up the results bluntly: “President Donald Trump’s popularity is sinking like a rock.”
Calling it “a terrible survey one month in,” Malloy observes that Trump “gets slammed on honesty, empathy, level headedness and the ability to unite. And two of his strong points, leadership and intelligence, are sinking to new lows.”
President Trump has a 38 percent job approval rating, meaning that less than four out of ten Americans approve of how the president is doing his job. 55 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s performance.
President Trump has a 39 percent favorability rating, also with a 55 percent disapproval rating.

Here’s an overview of how Americans see their President:
- 55 Â percent say that he is not honest;Â 40 percent say he is.
- 55 Â percent say that he does not have good leadership skills; 42 percent say he does.
- 53 Â percent say that he does not care about average Americans; 44 percent say he does.
- 63 Â percent say that he is not level-headed; 33 percent say he is.
- 64 Â percent say that he is a strong person; 32 percent say he is not.
- 58 Â percent say that he is intelligent; 38 percent say he is not.
- 60 Â percent say that he does not share their values. 37 percent say he does.
There is a huge partisan divide, possibly the largest ever.
Republicans approve of Trump by an 83 – 10 percent margin. Just five percent of Democrats approve of him, while 91 percent of Democrats do not. Among independent voters, 38 percent approve, 55 percent do not.

Meanwhile, contrary to what the White House is saying, the media, “so demonized by the Trump Administration, is actually a good deal more popular than President Trump,” Malloy said. Voters “trust the media more than Trump 52 – 37 percent ‘to tell you the truth about important issues.'”
