Sweden Formally Asks U.S. What Trump Meant By “Last Night In Sweden”

Sweden’s Foreign Ministry has formally asked the U.S. State Department to clarify a bizarre statement from President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Florida on Saturday.Â
As we mentioned earlier, Trump cited a nonexistent terror attack that happened “last night in Sweden,” setting social media ablaze.Â
Reuters reports that the Swedish embassy in Washington has contacted the State Department.Â
“We have asked the question today to the state department. We are trying to get clarity,” Swedish foreign ministry spokeswoman Catarina Axelsson said.
Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom responded to Trump’s remarks on Twitter with a passage from her speech in parliament last week on foreign policy, according to Reuters.Â
“In 2016, ‘post-truth’ was named Word of the Year by Oxford Dictionaries,” the passage read. “Both functioning democracy and constructive cooperation between states require us to speak with, and not about, each other, to honor agreements and to allow ideas to compete. They also require us to respect science, facts and the media, and to acknowledge each other’s wisdom.â€
Meanwhile, the trolling continues, led by Chelsea Clinton.
