Strategic Ploy or Genuine Proposal?
Reports are flying that tonight President Donald Trump will propose comprehensive immigration reform. The move, should it happen, would be in stark contrast to his campaign platform and to what his core base wants.
“The time is right for an immigration bill if both sides are willing to compromise,†Trump is expected to say.
Strategically, he could be proposing it to make himself appear more moderate, knowing it will be bnearly impossible to get both sides to agree on legislation that he would be willing to sign.
Some reports claim Trump’s proposal would be legislation that would  “provide a pathway to legal status, but not immediately to citizenship.”
