“Just Stiff All The Contractors”: Twitter Mocks Trump’s Pledge To Bring Cost Of Border Wall “WAY DOWN”

“What happened to the part about Mexico paying for it?”

President Donald Trump took to Twitter early Saturday to respond to reports that the cost of building his U.S.-Mexico border wall would be significantly higher than he claimed during his campaign.

According to Reuters, the Department of Homeland Security now estimates the wall would cost up to $21.6 billion and take three years to construct. Trump said it would cost only $12 billion.

Trump also claimed Mexico would pay for the wall, but President Enrique Peña Nieto has repeatedly said that isn’t going to happen. Trump has responded by admitting that American taxpayers would have to fund the wall’s construction, with the U.S. later being reimbursed by Mexico — possibly in the form of a 20 percent tariff on Mexican goods that would ultimately be absorbed by consumers.

Here’s how Twitter responded.
