The Whitehouse.gov Petition Seeking Trump’s Tax Returns Has Already Hit 100K Signatures

Effort Meets Threshold For Formal Response In Less Than 24 Hours

A petition on the official White House website calling for President Donald Trump to release his tax returns has already exceeded 100,000 signatures, the number needed to trigger an official response from the administration.

The petition, launched on President Barack Obama’s “We The People” platform immediately after Trump was sworn in, had 123,332 signatures by Saturday morning. It seeks the release of Trump’s tax returns, “with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance.”

“The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution,” the petition states.

Elsewhere, Whitehouse.gov states: “If you gather 100,000 signature in 30 days, we’ll review your petition, make sure it gets in front of the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.”

Meanwhile, two liberal advocacy groups have launched a formal campaign to impeach Trump, and the ACLU has filed a Freedom of Information Act request on his conflicts of interest.
