Trump Attacks New York Times, Washington Post In False, Typo-Laden Tweetstorm
“A Toddler’s Morning Temper Tantrum,” One User Responds
As usual, President Donald Trump took to Twitter early Saturday to air his grievances.Â
“The failing @nytimes has been wrong about me from the very beginning,” Trump wrote in a three-part tweetstorm (above). “Thr [SIC] coverage about me in the @nytimes and the @washingtonpost gas [SIC] been so false and angry that the times actually apologized to its …Â dwindling subscribers and readers. They got me wrong right from the beginning and still have not changed course, and never will. DISHONEST.”
It’s unclear what prompted the tweetstorm, but in any case, Trump’s assertions about The New York Times are false. The newspaper hasn’t apologized to readers, and its subscription growth soared tenfold in the wake of Trump’s election victory. Â
Here’s how Twitter responded:Â
You just condemned people to be slaughtered in their home countries and this is what you’re tweeting? Do better. https://t.co/PVKyzGaklO

You just instituted one of the most disgusting policies in modern US history yet you’re whining about the primaries. https://t.co/iVvCNk8gXX

This is doubly false. The @nytimes has not apologized to it’s readers. Their subscriptions have also increased since the election. pic.twitter.com/LzZxmQop86

Trump has singlehandedly boosted NYT subscriptions… the more he tweets, the better they do https://t.co/dMccEgRdxK

Whatever @nytimes did today to piss off our President, please keep doing it. #realnews pic.twitter.com/A2P5AfLUbx

Trump’s attacks on WaPo and NYT are purely a political strategy to animate his base. He gave friendly interview to @maggieNYT the other day.
