Trump Claims “Politically Motivated Attack” After National Security Pick Caught Plagiarizing Book
Fox News’ Monica Crowley Stole Large Sections Of 2012 Best Seller
President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is standing by Fox News contributor Monica Crowley, whom he recently tapped for a national security communications role, despite a new report showing that she plagiarized large sections of a 2012 book. Â
Andrew Kaczynski of CNN’s Kfile uncovered more than 50 examples of apparent plagiarism from numerous sources — including news articles, think tanks and even a podiatrist’s website — in Crowley’s New York Times bestseller, “What The (Bleep) Just Happened.” Â
In a statement, a spokesperson for Trump’s transition team claimed CNN’s story, published Saturday, is part of “a politically motivated attack.” Crowley will serve as Trump’s senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council.
“Monica’s exceptional insight and thoughtful work on how to turn this country around is exactly why she will be serving in the Administration,” the spokesperson told Kfile. “HarperCollins—one of the largest and most respected publishers in the world—published her book which has become a national best-seller. Any attempt to discredit Monica is nothing more than a politically motivated attack that seeks to distract from the real issues facing this country.”
It’s not the first time Crowley has been accused of plagiarism. In 1999, she apparently stole a column from a neoconservative magazine and published it in The Wall Street Journal. At the time, Crowley denied the allegation. This time, she didn’t respond to CNN’s requests for comment.Â
