Top Aide Backtracks on Taxes, Now Says Trump ‘Is Under Audit’

Conway Walks Back Sunday’s Claim

White House Adviser Kellyanne Conway is backtracking from the news she made Sunday morning, when she strongly suggested Donald Trump will not ever release his taxes, period. 

Challenged by ABC News with the fact that the first “We the People” petition on the Trump administration’s new White House website calls for the President to release his tax returns, a snarky Conway launched a defensive retort.

“The White House response is that he’s not going to release his tax returns,” Conway told George Stephanapoulos. “We litigated this all through the election. People didn’t care, they voted for him. And let me make this very clear, most Americans are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like.” 

Monday morning, Conway walked back her assertion.
