New Gallup Poll Finds ‘Many in U.S. Skeptical Trump Can Handle Presidential Duties’

Among Democrats, Trump Scores Historically Low

A just-released Gallup poll finds many Americans don’t think Donald Trump can do they job they elected him to do.

Compared to past presidents, and by double-digit margins, Americans are far less confident Trump can handle the duties of his office.

For example, asked if Trump can prevent major scandals in his administration, just 44 percent said yes, compared to an average of 76 percent who thought Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama could.

Handle an international crisis? Just 46 percent are confident, a deficit of 25 points to the 71 percent average of the former three presidents.

Use military force wisely? 47 percent, versus 76 percent of his predecessors.

Given Trump has been handed a GOP majority in the House and Senate, it would seem voters would think working effectively with Congress to get things done would be a big yes, but just 60 percent of voters think Trump can, down 22 points from previous presidents.

Even what many believe is the top reason Trump won the White House, the economy, nets the president-elect just 59 percent of voters’ confidence.

Unsurprisingly, there is a great partisan divide:
