WATCH: LGBTQ Students to Trump: Be a President for All of Us

LGBTQ Students Launch GLSEN’s 100 Days of Kindness Campaign as Trump Becomes President

As Donald Trump begins his term as President of the United States, LGBTQ high schoolers from around the country have a message for him: the eleciton may be over, but their stories are not.

More than a dozen highschoolers, representing lesbian, gay, bisxual, transgender, asexual, nonbinary and other orientations, genders, and abiities have come together with the help of GLSEN to defiantly tell President Trump they will never stop fighitng for LGBTQ-inclusive schools.

The members of GLSEN’s National Student Council, who appear in the video, remind president Trump that kids around the country – and the world – are paying attention to his words and his actions.

“We noticed that you like to use name-calling when people speak out against you, but just know that we are listening and watching as you take that oath today: to protect the Constitution, the one that says all people are equal, and that includes us. Before you call me any names, let me tell you the names I want to be called: bold, resilient, strong, brave, truth-teller, go-getter, writer, dog lover, musician.”

The students challenge President Trump to be a “hope bringer, equality advocate, community unifier, President for all,” and ask him to “please let us know when we can call you that.”

Many students across the country have reported feeling more anxious and nervous as Trump’s time in office begins, and a September report commissioned by GLSEN shows the need for continued action on behalf of LGBTQ students in schools across the country.

The video launches GLSEN’s 100 Days of Kindness initiative, which reminds students and families across the country that “kindness is protest, kindness is unity, and kindess is action.”
