Inspired By Trump? GOP Official Arrested For Pinching Female Worker’s Groin
“I Love This New World, I No Longer Have To Be Politically Correct,” Connecticut Republican Told Victim
A well-known Republican official in Greenwich, Connecticut, was arrested this week and charged with fourth-degree sexual assault for allegedly pinching a female town employee in the crotch.
Prior to the alleged assault, 71-year-old Christopher von Keyserling reportedly told the victim: “I love this new world, I no longer have to be politically correct,” according to a report from The Daily Voice.Â
Von Keyserling’s remark was a possible reference to President-elect Donald Trump, who was once caught on videotape condoning sexual assault by saying he liked to grab women “by the pussy.”Â
Von Keyserling, 71, is a member of the Representative Town Meeting, a form of municipal legislature common in New England.Â
The incident occurred in early December, when von Keyserling and the 57-year-old victim reportedly got into an argument related to politics. At one point, he called her a “bloodsucking union employee,” and she told him, “Fuck you.”Â
After von Keyserling followed the woman into her office, she began to leave because she didn’t want to be alone with him. That’s when he pinched her in the groin area. She responded by threatening to punch him if he ever did it again.Â
Later, she reported the incident to police but initially said she didn’t want to file a criminal complaint. The victim changed her mind after learning von Keyserling had acted in a similar manner with other employees and tried to dismiss the incident as a joke.Â
Police say von Keyserling admitted to the assault, and surveillance video is consistent with the victim’s account. But his attorney, Phil Russell, later said: “Any contact, if it occurred, it was trivial. And from my limited understanding was never meant to be malicious or sexual. The statute seems to require one or the other.”
Russell also said: “Von Keyserling playfully gave a lady who he knew for 30 years a pinch is what the accusation is. And somehow, everybody’s wringing their hands and carrying on that this is a crime, and it just isn’t.”
