GM Quickly Hits Back at Trump: Most of Our Chevy Cruzes Are Made in the USA (Video)
‘More Web of Intrigue Than in a Spiderman Sequel’
Donald Trump early Tuesday morning hypocritically attacked General Motors, accusing the top auto maker of producing some of its Chevrolet Cruze cars in Mexico and selling them in the U.S. The president-elect threatened GM via Twitter, causing the stock to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in value in pre-opening action. Now GM is fighting back, and quickly.
“Make in U.S.A.or pay big border tax!” Trump tweeted.Â
“General Motors manufacturers the Chevrolet Cruze sedan in Lordstown, Ohio,” the company said in a statement on its website. “All Chevrolet Cruze sedans sold in the U.S. are built in GM’s assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio. GM builds the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback for global markets in Mexico, with a small number sold in the U.S.”
CNBC’s Brian Sullivan appeared on MSNBC Tuesday morning, explaining that the GM plant in Ohio that makes the Chevy Cruze is in one of the counties that voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012 but for Trump in 2016, making this very much an act of politics.
Sullivan says there’s “more web of intrigue than in a Spiderman sequel” related to Trump’s attack:

The “Morning Joe” discussion also raised the specter of insider trading, which Trump’s tweets absolutely open the door to.
Many have noted that Trump’s clothing line is manufacturered not in the U.S. but in 12 countries, including Mexico and China.
