DC’s Metro Reports 2nd-Busiest Day In History For Women’s March, Behind Obama Inauguration

Trump Inauguration Generated About Half As Many Trips

On Saturday morning, we shared a few incredible scenes from D.C.’s packed Metro transit system as anti-Trump protesters headed to the Women’s March on Washington.

As it turns out, Saturday was the second-busiest day for ridership in Metro’s history, the transit agency reported Sunday morning on Twitter (above).

More than 1 million people used the Metro system, with the vast majority traveling to and from the anti-Trump Women’s March.

According to Washington’s NBC affiliate, the busiest day ever for Metro was Jan. 20, 2009, when the system recorded 1.12 million trips for the first inauguration of President Barack Obama.

In contrast, Metro reported 571,000 trips on Friday for Trump’s inauguration.
