UPDATING: Senate Committee Advances Betsy DeVos Nomination to Full Senate

12-11 Party Line Vote

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP) has just voted to advance Betsy DeVos’ nomination to the full Senate. DeVos is Donald Trump’s nominee to become Secretary of Education.

The party-line vote was 12-11.

DeVos Tuesday was accused of plagiarizing her written testimony.

UPDATE: 12:27 PM EST –
Apparently due to a technicality the vote is tied. It’s unclear what the next step is.

More:

Apparently, Democrats contested the vote as Utah Republican Sen. Orrin hatch was not present during the vote and voted by proxy, which is not allowed. The committee has revoted – apparently that’s allowed? – and the final vote is again 12-11.
