BREAKING: Report: Trump May Sign Executive Order Laying Groundwork for Torture, Extraordinary Rendition, Black Ops Sites

Among President Barack Obama’s First Acts Were to End These Illegal and Inhumane Programs

The New York Times has just published an article detailing a draft version of an executive order Donald Trump is expected to sign that would lay the groundwork for the U.S. government to bring back Bush administration programs including “black ops sites,” extraordinary rendition, and torture. Among President Barack Obama’s first acts were to end these illegal and inhumane programs.

If signed, the Times reports, Trump’s “sweeping executive order” would “also undo many of the other restrictions on handling detainees that Mr. Obama put in place in response to policies of the Bush administration.” Among them, revoking Pres. Obama’s “directive to give the International Committee of the Red Cross access to all wartime detainees in American custody – another step toward reopening secret prisons outside of the normal wartime rules established by the Geneva Conventions.”

In case Trump’s intentions are not clear enough, it targets Muslims.

The Times reports “the order was accompanied by a one-page statement that criticized the Obama administration for having ‘refrained from exercising certain authorities’ about detainees it said were critical to defending the country from ‘radical Islamism.'”

It’s important to note two issues. First, President Donald Trump has apparently decided to govern by executive order, which is what he and the GOP falsely accused President Barack Obama of doing. Second, while the executive order does not order torture and other programs, the programs the Times reports are contained in the order are illegal and violate the Geneva Conventions.

All of these actions actually make Americans less safe. Terrorists have used the U.S. government’s treatment of prisoners, including the existence of the prison in Guantanamo, as a recruiting tool.

Trump will be signing an executive order Wednesday that effectively puts in place his campaign promise of a Muslim ban.
