Tweet of the Day: Franklin Graham on the Election

Was the Election of Trump an Act of God? Franklin Graham Wants to Know.

Franklin Graham, the evangelical head of an international non-profit and his Facebook page, from where he addresses his 5 million followers, Thursday posted a tweet rhetorically asking, essentially, if the election of Donald Trump was an act of God:

Graham, who has worked hard to not appear to be breaking IRS rules regarding non-profits and political candidates, has clearly been in support of Donald Trump’s candidacy over Hillary Clinton’s. On social media he frequently posted statements asking followers to vote their hearts, keeping in mind their beliefs on issues like abortion – the right to which Trump opposes and Clinton supports.

See? Not endorsing any candidate. Not exactly.

Just days before the election, Graham tweeted:

Trump frequently called himself the “law and order candidate.” Clinton was unfairly accused of defending a child rapist while a young attorney, while in fact, “Clinton reluctantly took on the case, which ended with a plea bargain for the defendant.”

In fact, Graham was so actively not taking sides in the election, so actively not jeopardizing his organization’s non-profit status (he runs Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief agency, and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, both of which he says are ministries,) he took to the road for many months this year, touring all 50 states – not telling people who they should vote for, just discussing God and the bible, in terms that reflect Trump’s supposed views.

“More than 230,000 people joined him in person as he challenged believers to pray, vote and engage in the political process,” the webpage for his DecisionAmerica tour states. “He also shared the Gospel at each stop, resulting in thousands of indicated decisions to accept Jesus Christ.”

While not endorsing any candidate, Graham made sure his followers – thousands showed at rallies across the country – knew exactly who they should vote for, biblically.

He even asked them to sign a pledge – still while not actively endorsing any candidate:

Just remember, Franklin Graham never endorsed Trump.
