Trump Whines On Twitter About Campaign To Sway Electoral College

President-Elect Complains Of Threats, Suggests Double Standard

Donald Turmp took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to complain — apparently — about the ongoing campaign to convince Republican electors to defect when the Electoral College votes on Monday.

“If my many supporters acted and threatened people like those who lost the election are doing, they would be scorned & called terrible names!” Trump wrote.

Trump didn’t immediately elaborate on the tweet — or provide any evidence — but he may have been referring to isolated reports of threats toward GOP electors.

In any case, Trump’s suggestion that there’s some sort of double standard when it comes to his supporters is preposterous. As the Associated Press notes in its report about the tweet: “In fact, Trump and his supporters have threatened people before. He frequently whipped up audiences at his huge rallies by railing against reporters, immigrants, Muslims and his critics. He repeatedly threatened news outlets with lawsuits. And he and his supporters have bombarded his critics on Twitter.”

Last Tuesday, Salon reported that Trump’s team was threatening GOP electors with “political reprisal” if they jumped ship. And on Friday, Trump admitted his supporters were “violent” and “vicious” during the campaign.

Trump once called the Electoral College “a disaster for democracy.” But after losing the popular vote by nearly 3 million and still winning the presidency, he said it’s “actually genius.”
