Anti-Trump Protesters Take To Streets Ahead Of Electoral College Vote

Vigils, Rallies Planned In All 50 State Capitals

Anti-Trump activists are planning candlelight vigils and protests in all 50 states Sunday night and Monday, calling for the Electoral College to reject the would-be president-elect.

The college’s 538 members will cast their official ballots in their respective state capitals at noon on Monday, with Republican Donald Trump projected to win 306-232.

Progressives have waged a historic campaign aimed at convincing at least 37 Republican electors to abandon Trump, which would leave him short of the 270 votes needed for victory. This week, Unite for America spent $500,000 on a TV ad (above) targeting GOP electors — an effort that was also the subject of a Saturday Night Live sketch. But thus far only one, Chris Suprun of Texas, has publicly said he won’t support the GOP nominee.

As a result, Trump is all but assured of officially becoming the nation’s president-elect on Monday. Nevertheless, the protests provide another opportunity to call attention to Hillary Clinton’s popular vote victory of 2.86 million, Trump’s unprecedented conflicts of interest, and the fact that the Russian government interfered in the election to help him win, among other things.
