Donald Trump on Sunday called the CIA’s report saying Russia interfered in the election to help him win “ridiculous,” saying he believes Democrats are using it as an “excuse.”Â
“I think it’s ridiculous. I think it’s just another excuse. I don’t believe it,” Trump told Fox News Sunday in his first Sunday show interview since the election. “Every week it’s another excuse. We had a massive landslide victory in the Electoral College. I don’t believe that at all.”Â
Trump added that he thinks there’s “great confusion” about the CIA’s report and “nobody really knows.”Â
“They have no idea if it’s Russia, China, or somebody,” Trump said. “It could be somebody sitting in a bed someplace. I think the Democrats are putting it out because they suffered one of the greatest defeats in the history of politics in this country. … They’re very embarrassed.” Â
Earlier Sunday, a bipartisan group of senators issued a statement calling for an investigation into Russia’s interference in the election. Noticeably absent from the statement was Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who’s been accused of quashing a report about the Russian hacking prior to the election.Â
“Democrats and Republicans must work together, and across the jurisdictional lines of the Congress, to examine these recent incidents thoroughly and devise comprehensive solutions to deter and defend against further cyber-attacks,” Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Jack Reed (D-R.I) and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in the statement. “This cannot become a partisan issue. The stakes are too high for our country. We are committed to working in this bipartisan manner, and we will seek to unify our colleagues around the goal of investigating and stopping the grave threats that cyberattacks conducted by foreign governments pose to our national security.â€
