Trump Just Said His Administration’s Rule Is ‘Hire American’ Yet He Just Got Approval to Hire 64 Foreign Workers at Mar-a-Lago

‘It’s Very, Very Hard to Get People’ Trump Claims

Donald Trump Thursday morning posted a meme to Instagram that says his “administration will follow two simple rules: Buy American and Hire American!” While hopefully his administration will follow more “rules” than those, the sheer hypocrisy in his announcement is staggering.

“Trump won approval to hire 64 foreign workers through the federal government’s H-2B visa program, according to newly released data from the U.S. Labor Department,” the Palm Beach Post reported December 6. “This past year, Trump was allowed to hire 69 foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago.”

The foreign workers staff Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. His Mar-a-Lago estate is being called the Southern White House, and Trump has said he plans to be there many if not most weekends.

Not only is Trump using foreign workers to do jobs that many believe Americans could do, but he is “paying some of them less than they made this past year, and most get just a 1 percent raise,” the Post notes. The jobs that require foreign workers, according to Trump, are cooks, waiters and waitresses, and housekeepers.

Trump, who has often said he only hires the best people, said, “It’s very, very hard to get people.”

“Other hotels do the exact same thing,” he said in his defense.
