Less Than One in Three Republicans Bothered by Russian Government’s Interference in US Election
Almost One Out of Four Americans Say They’re Not Bothered
All seventeen U.S. intelligence agencies, including the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the CIA, and the FBI, have concluded that the Russian government interfered in the U.S. election and did so to help Donald Trump win. And while more than eight out of ten Democrats are bothered by a totalitarian foreign government working to help a candidate friendly to it win the White House and see that as a problem, few Republicans do.
Less than three out of ten (29%) of Republican voters in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll say they are bothered by it. By comparison, 86 percent of Democrats say they are bothered by it.
Overall, the majority of Americans, 55%, “say they are significantly bothered by the news that hackers working in connection with a foreign government were involved in trying to influence November’s presidential election,” NBC News reports. Similarly, 49% of independents, who tend to lean right, say they are bothered.
Just 23 percent, nearly one out of four Americans, say they are not bothered by the news.
37 percent say they believe Russia’ actions helped Trump win, 57% say they do not think it made a difference.
When it comes to Putin, there’s also a striking partisan divide. Just 8 percent of Republicans say Trump is too friendly with Russian president Vladimir Putin, 61 percent of Democrats say it is too friendly.
