House Intelligence Chair Says No Need for More Investigations in Russian Hacking. He’s Also on Trump Transition Team.
Fears ‘Duplicate Current Committee Oversight Efforts’
U.S. Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA), Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, has announced he does not want any further investigations to be opened into Russia’s hacking and interference in the U.S. election. Rep. Nunes happens to sit on the Trump Transition team’s executive committee.Â
“The House Intelligence Committee is conducting vigorous oversight of the investigations into election-related cyber attacks,” Nunes said in a statement, as Business Insider reported. “At this time I do not see any benefit in opening further investigations, which would duplicate current committee oversight efforts and intelligence community inquiries.”
Donald Trump has said he does not believe Russia is responsible for the hacks of the DNC and Clinton campaign chair John Podesta’s email, or other non-computer hacking interference, including planting of fake news stores designed to toss the election to the Republican billionaire.
There have been several concurrent investigations into Benghazi and Hillary Clinton, and a total of at least eight investigations by Republicans, wasting tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer monies, each concluding there was no actionable wrongdoing by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Republicans even after the election threatened to continue the investigations.
Nunes is a seven-term congressman.
