Off to Carrier’s Plant for Victory Lap Trump Says ‘They Will Sell Many Air Conditioners!’ They Make Furnaces.

Trump’s Taking a Victory Tour of Indiana Plant Which Got Big Tax Breaks for Sending Half Its Jobs to Mexico

Increasingly under fire, first for a flailing transition team then for “draining the swamp” by pouring its contents into his administration, Donald Trump desperately needed a win. He has promised to save the jobs at Carrier’s Indiana plant and spent the Thanksgiving holiday talking to Carrier’s management to eek out a win. (More likely, it was Indiana governor and the vice president-elect, Mike Pence, who did the work.)

Trump on Thanksgiving took to Twitter to announce he was working hard to save their jobs, even on the holiday.

Then he announced success – Carrier agreed, he said, to keep the jobs in Indiana.

In reality, Carrier says it will keep “close to” 1000 jobs in the Indianapolis plant, but 1000+ jobs will, in fact, go to Mexico.

The exact details of the deal are unknown, but it involved big tax breaks, which Indiana Governor Mike Pence likely arranged.

Trump’s been doing his usual self-promoton, via Twitter:

Trump on Wednesday posted a tweet exposing just how little he knows about the people he’s about to meet and the jobs he saved.

They make gas-powered furnaces.

Trump’s such a great deal maker he doesn’t even know the first thing about the business, the people – or the jobs he’s supposedly working to save.

And just remember: When President Obama saved the entire U.S. auto industry, Republicans attacked him as a socialist meddling in the free market.
